Note 1The firmStanding and method

The firm

A chambers built around the record.

AII & Associates advises companies, institutions and individuals on the transactions and the disputes that decide how their affairs actually run. We prepare every matter as though it will be read by an appellate court, because often enough it is. That habit shapes the advice we give at the beginning, while the choice between two clauses or two forums is still open and still inexpensive.

The firm practises from Area 11, Garki, which puts us within reach of the Federal High Court, the regulators and the ministries where most federal matters are settled in practice. We do not farm out advocacy. The lawyer who takes your instructions is the lawyer who argues the case.

Three areas have come to define the practice. The first is the enforcement of fundamental rights, where the remedy depends on moving quickly and on a record that can withstand a preliminary objection. The second is electricity consumer protection, a field governed by regulations and orders that most consumers never see and that many distribution companies apply loosely. The third is criminal process put to work as a debt collector: an arrest procured by a creditor, a detention that outlives the constitutional limit, and a remand application timed for a Monday morning. All three reward the same discipline: build the file from the other side’s own documents.

Note 2Standing rulesWhat a client can rely on

Standing rules

Four things we hold to.

Written advice, not verbal comfort

Every opinion leaves these chambers in writing with the authorities cited, so that you can act on it and so that it can be tested.

The principal on every file

Instructions are taken, opinions signed and cases argued by the principal. Nothing is passed down the line.

Costs agreed before work begins

Scope, fee basis and disbursements are set out in writing first. We will also tell you when a matter ought to be settled rather than argued.

The remedy before the argument

We identify the forum that can actually give you what you want before drafting a line. A well argued complaint in the wrong forum is a loss with extra steps.
